Crusty French baguette!

Each weekday morning I wake up at 6:15, slip on my sweats and go to the boulangerie just around the corner for a fresh, hot, crusty baguette.

I love that there is no one in the streets, it feels as though the city belongs to me. The moon is still up, the stars still out and a great silence reigns. People who run a boulangerie are up and baking bread at 4:30 or 5:00 am every single day.

I can smell the fresh baked bread a block away. I walk in and am instantly enveloped in a warm and cozy yeasty aura. As I have been coming to the same boulangerie for years, I am greeted warmly by the owners. We discuss mundane affairs such as the weather, exchange other familiar pleasantries and then I trade in my 90 centimes for a hot, steaming baguette.

I smile all the way home.

There I prepare the kids lunch.

Cutting the baguette in half for two sandwiches. My son eats peanut butter and jelly on a fresh baguette every day. What a way to mix those two cultures!!

Voila! Gros bisous et a demain!

Love, Charley

  1. There is nothing like a fresh French baguette. When we in Europe visiting relatives we took the TGV between Geneva and Paris. My hubby bought a baguette and a bar of dark chocolate for the journey. Yum.
